A funny movie can help relieve the stress of a student’s college life. However, despite the fact that college life really can be funny, we had to reach to find 25 funny movies ever made. Beginning in 1932 with the Marx Brothers, you can end a full week’s worth of movies with the latest film, Accepted, from 2006. The movies on this list are compiled in alphabetical order.

Accepted (2006): A funny movie for nerds, providing an ideal situation where a high-school slacker creates an imaginary college for himself and his friends called the South Harmon Institute of Technology.
Back to School (1986): Rodney Dangerfield plays a wealthy yet uneducated father who joins his struggling son at college. A great foil for Dangerfield, who rates as a classic comedian, specializing in slapstick.
Dead Man On Campus (1998): If you think you can get straight A’s after your roommate commits suicide, then watch this comedy. Josh Miller (Tom Everett Scott) and Cooper Frederickson (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) search for a classmate with a death wish and then try to force the issue with objects such as knives, razor blades and ropes.
Fandango (1985): Five best friends on the road become involved with adventures and women that only the young can endure. “It’s the stuff legends are made of, son.” Kevin Costner stars in the least serious role of his acting career.
Horse Feathers (1932): This is the Marx Brothers’ fourth comedic masterpiece, following Animal Crackers. How I Got Into College (1989): Watch this romantic comedy with the girlfriend, as it is just fluffy fun. But, there is genuine chemistry between Jessica Kailo (a young, perky Lara Flynn Boyle) and Marlon Browne (Corey Parker).
Johnny Be Good (1988): A teen comedy about a high-school quarterback pursued by crazed college recruiters. Saving grace for those viewers who hate this film is that it stars Robert Downey, Jr. and Uma Thurman.
Legally Blonde (2001): An inoffensive, lighthearted and funny film for women and a daw-dropping ogling film for men as they watch Reese Witherspoon as a major in fashion marketing who applies to Harvard and is accepted. All in all, an amusing film that can pleasantly waste a few hours for you.
Loser (2000): This film is a romantic comedy starring Jason Biggs, Mena Suvari and Greg Kinnear. It is about a small town teenager who is accepted into New York University and must cope with the pressures of college life and the big city. Often rated as a loser, this film would fall at the bottom of the list of 25 if this list wasn’t in alphabetical order.
Making the Grade (1984): A typical guy-on-guy film without the nerdiness, but with plenty of old-school pranks. Palmer Woodrow (Dana Olsen) is a rich, prep school kid who rarely attends class and has been expelled from numerous prep schools. He gets mixed up with a con artist and things fall apart. This film is notable for marking the first appearance of the Andrew Clay’s “Dice” persona.
National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978): On the surface this movie seems filled with gross humor. However, even literary types can be impressed that the United States Library of Congress deemed Animal House “culturally significant” and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.
National Lampoon’s Van Wilder (2002): Van Wilder is a guy who has been at his college for seven years. He spends most of his time throwing parties and “fund raisers.” When his father decides that it’s time for tough love, he doesn’t pay his tuition. So Van becomes a professional party thrower.

PCU (1994): PCU attempts to win the title of ultimate college satire. Freshman Tom Lawrence (Chris Young) helps the film along by insulting every possible group and clique on a campus visit. Impossible to explain, yet easy to watch, Lawrence becomes embroiled in an anti-PC environment and a war to regain fraternities within this scenario. A box-office crash, this movie has become a cult flash.
Real Genius (1985): A 15-year-old science prodigy assigned to work on a classified laser project includes an early performance by critically acclaimed actor Val Kilmer as genius slacker, Chris Knight. Featuring witty writing, a hilarious climax and raucous college humor, the film also stars William Atherton as Knight’s vengeful nemesis, Jerry Hathaway.

That’s what happens in this film, when Ethan Dulles (Jason Schwartzman) catches one of the three friends cheating and blackmails the trio unless they try to hook him up with his dream girl, Angela Patton (Jaime King).
Son In Law (1993): Rebecca Warner (Carla Gugino), a sheltered valedictorian from a quiet South Dakota farming town, who heads off to UCLA and culture shock. But, she soon adapts and learns that her former life isn’t all it’s meant to be…so she recruits Pauly Shore to accompany her during a Thanksgiving trip back home.
Spring Break (1983): This comedy stars David Knell and Perry Lang, two nerds who book a room at an inexpensive hotel in Fort Lauderdale during spring break. A coming-of-age movie, this film still remains funny, especially when considering the antics that were considered risque almost three decades ago.
The Nutty Professor (1963): Even after almost half a century, this classic film remains one of the funniest college movies around. Nerdy professor Julius Kelp (Jerry Lewis) drinks a special serum and becomes a cool, womanizing hipster named Buddy Love.

Cooking for One Can Be Fun – 5 Simple Tips and Tricks

So you live alone; you enjoy the freedom, independence and solitude, yet you hate the fact that you have dine out by yourself or make do with crappy frozen dinners that taste worse by the day. You don’t mind cooking your meals – in fact, you would prefer to do so because it’s the healthier and cheaper option – but you have no clue as to how to dish up dishes that are just enough for one person? Set your doubts aside, and use these tips and tricks to whip up delicious dishes, not just for yourself, but also for a significant other you wish to impress:

Learn how to freeze food: If your recipe serves four people, make the dish, and freeze the remaining three portions in separate containers. This way, you not only avoid wasting food, you also don’t have to cook every single day. You can use the frozen food in creative ways – either for dinner the following day or as a sandwich-filler for lunch if it’s conducive to do so. If you’re opening a can or jar, transfer the remaining contents to an airtight container and store in your fridge. The key here is to know how to freeze food so it doesn’t get spoilt and retains all its natural flavors and nutrients. Also, don’t store frozen food for too long, especially if it’s already cooked or if it has come from a can.
Salads and sandwiches make full meals too: When you cook for one and want to save time yet make nutritious meals, nothing beats salads and sandwiches. You can either buy pre-cut fruits and vegetables or cut up fresh produce to make your salads. Garnish with nuts and parsley and use organic and/or low-fat dressings from the store. 7 Ways Students Can Contribute to Saving the Environment

There are many things that are expected of you as a student, and most of them are related to academic performance and good social behavior. No one really believes that students can contribute anything significant to saving the environment and making the world a better place to live in. However, with just a tiny bit of effort and a whole lot of willingness, it’s very easy for students to do the little things that go a long way into making our environment greener and our planet healthier. So along with gaining an education, here’s how you can simultaneously play your part in saving the environment:

1. Switch off appliances and electronic gadgets when they’re not in use: Just the simple acts of turning off lights and ceiling fans when they’re not in use, shutting down computers instead of leaving them to “sleep” or “hibernate”, and removing chargers from power outlets when they’re not connected to notebook computers or mobile phones or other gadgets, go a long way in your green efforts. While it may take a while to get used to doing this, it soon becomes second nature.

2. Use energy responsibly: Minimize the use of air conditioners – keep windows closed when they’re on, and when the weather is not harsh, avoid using ACs and room heaters. Make do with ceiling fans and extra blankets whenever possible.

3. Use less water: Don’t just spend less time in the shower, also make sure that you don’t leave the water running when you’re shaving or brushing your teeth. And when you’re done using the facilities, ensure that the faucets and closets are not leaking.

4. Recycle: When removing trash from your dorm room or living area, take a few extra minutes to sort through it and recycle it responsibly. Don’t just dump old newspapers, magazines and aluminum cans into one large bag and stuff it down the trash chute.

5. Reuse: College text books are much cheaper when they’re secondhand, and you’re also helping to save more than a few trees when you buy the used kind. Also, take along a shopping bag every time you visit the supermarket or the department store. This way, you can minimize the use of paper bags and say no to plastic as well.

6. Use public transportation: This is another budgetary measure for the cash-strapped college student – use the bus or the train to get around instead of investing in a secondhand car (which could so easily turn out to be a lemon) and spending much more for gas. Or if you’re looking to boost your health and fitness as well, just walk or buy a bike and pedal around campus and through town. If you own a car, carpool with friends to minimize expenses and cut down on fuel usage.

7. Don’t print hard copies unless absolutely necessary: Email has made it easier to conserve the use of paper and minimize the number of trees that need to be cut. So take advantage of this and avoid printing out documents and letters unless you absolutely need a hard copy. Whenever possible, use paper on both sides, and invest in recycled paper for your fax machine and printer.

As you can see, the above list is simple and not too hard to practice. So make the most of your days as a student learning and following good habits that make our environment a better place and you a greener person.

Sleep Your Way to Good Health

Some of us love to do it, others not so much; kids have to be forced to adhere to bedtimes, and most adults prefer to be night owls rather than early birds; and even though we tend to forgo it at times in the pursuit of work or leisure, there’s no doubting the fact that sleep is one of the most important factors that contribute to good health. There’s a reason why we spend most of the 24 hours in a day sleeping – six or more hours go to slumber for the average person, and that’s more time than we spend eating, working (at a stretch), or doing anything else – and that’s because without sleep, we would not be able to function effectively.

Sleep is the recharge that our internal batteries need when they’re worn down at the end of each day, and if we deny our body much-needed sleep, we pay the price sooner or later. That being said, there are rules that govern sleep and determine if it is good or bad for your body and health. So if you want to sleep your way to good health, here’s what you need to do:

Go to bed and wake up around the same times every night and morning.
Do not eat heavy meals two hours before your bedtime.
Don’t do anything stimulating to the senses – this makes you excited and you find it hard to fall asleep and sleep peacefully.
As much as possible, get your sleep during the night. If your job makes it hard to do so, create an environment that mimics the night by drawing all the shades, putting out any lights, minimizing the noise around you, and get at least six continuous hours of sleep. Also, create a routine that will send signals to your body that it’s time to go to sleep – like drinking a glass of milk, brushing your teeth, and doing something soothing like listening to soft music or reading a book before you drift off to sleep.
Avoid sleeping in the daytime (if you don’t work night shifts) unless they are power naps that last no more than 15 minutes. Siestas sound good, but they don’t make you very productive during the latter half of the day especially if you sleep very deeply and are groggy when you wake up.
If you suffer from insomnia for a few nights, don’t resort to sleeping pills. They only get you addicted to them and cause undesirable side effects too. Instead, try and find out why you’re finding it hard to sleep well. If it’s some problem at work or on the home front, force yourself to calm down and think of nothing before you go to sleep. Meditation and exercise help you sleep peacefully and deeply – one soothes the mind while the other tires your body.
Don’t use alcohol as an aid to help you sleep. It may knock you out, but it interferes with your regular sleep pattern and wakes you up at odd hours of the night.

Sleep is probably the panacea to cure all our ills – it prevents a host of illnesses and conditions ranging from heart disease to obesity; it improves concentration and efficiency; and it repairs your body and makes it as good as new to face the new day. So don’t skimp on this great blessing, unless you want to skimp on good health of course!
